I am always being asked to do more nudes, so here they are! Print-making is something I have always wanted to try as a new way of expressing my creativity. In the spring of 2008, through a class at the Granville Island Malaspina Printmakers, I 'threw' my very first prints! I used one of my favourite nudes from my first Nude Series as the image for the traditional copper plate etching and printing process called intaglio... rolling the copper plate excitedly through the printing press. There it was! I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed 'throwing' them.
Passion for a sense of place in the limitless world; the longing for the open road and travels to places as yet unseen. How we choose the best places to make our home.
It was the summer of adventure, 2007. I left government yet again, to retire and return to work only part-time in what we call the formal capacity of a job, thereby enabling me the pleasure of painting becoming more of my life's work! This series so-named by a friend, who spoke of the smile on my face from my wonderful road trip through Nakusp, British Columbia, on my new HD Softail Deuce..."Ride the Wind, Girl", he said!
I fled the 2007 winter rain of Vancouver to the Dominican. There, I painted very little; it was raining there too and then very hot to paint. I rested, taking in everything around me, like one does when visiting a foreign land. Returning home, I painted the people; the feel of the sand on my toes; the smell of the ocean; the sound of the palm leaves stirring in the wind; the Mojitos!
In June of 2006, I moved from the city of Victoria, to the city of Vancouver, British Columbia. It is a beautiful city. I especially love the energy. I love living very near to the water of English Bay. I especially love painting while looking out at the bits and pieces of the water of English Bay from the window of my studio. Papertime in the city...
"On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me"...sparkles, glitter, shiny tin ornaments and LOTS OF JEWELS! What more could I ask for! My Christmas series, playing...What Fun!
This series evolved from time spent in the home studio of Michelle Miller, an Artist from Victoria, B.C., with whom myself and other artists would meet every Wednesday evening to paint, listen to music and drink fine wine...I often painted Michelle 'dancing' in her studio. Thank you Michelle, for those times to play amongst fellow artists.
There is something about little books to write in or draw. I enjoyed making a small series of these books, incorporating images of my paintings printed on the canvas covers. The little books are bound with beads and linen thread, all tied up with a bow.
